I've run a NPV 12v kayak series motor for year and have long considered them the gold standard in this space. Well Newport has now reestablished the gold standard with the NT300. The power and performance of this motor can not be overstated. The immediate speed, power and torque available from the NT300 is the stuff of the serious kayak angler's dreams. Definitely worth the investment!
We ordered online had this motor (and other pieces) shipped to Blaine, WA to a freight forwarder that brings shipments into Canada. They charged us $18 CAD to bring it into Victoria Airport, in Canada, so our shipping was excellent. When it arrived, I took the paperwork across the parking lot to Canada Customs and paid the provincial taxes due. I had to also pay Washington state taxes, but that was negligible compared to what it would have cost to ship it to Canada from Newport directly.
The motor arrived in great condition and so far has been a joy to use.
We are using it is as a tender for our 50' Tollycraft CPMY.
Within a week of receiving it, we used this motor on our new Newport dinghy on a 10 day trip to Chatterbox Falls at the head of Princess Louisa Inlet on British Columbia's west coast. We explored lots of small bays, zipped ashore to go to the pub, scooted around the anchorages looking for hazards, and often ran the engine for a couple of hours at less than full power (40% to 80% typically) as we travelled up and down the coast from our anchorages to find waterfalls, admire sea life, do photography, get to marine park hiking trails, etc.
All the parts are solid, the motor runs well, and it runs for a lot longer than we'd anticipated. We have ran it at full throttle once or twice to see how it goes, but it doesn't seem to get noticibly faster than it runs at 80% so we'd prefer to run it slower and get more battery time. When we're not actively on trips, we're going to store the motor (and battery) inside the boat, for security. When we were on this maiden voyage, we left the Newport electric outboard motor laying in the aft cockpit, not attached on the boat. When we put it on and off the dinghy at sea, we tied a rope around the motor, before taking it off the Tollycraft, to hang on the back of the dinghy. The sea is deep, the motor is expensive and integral to our voyage... so why risk it!
Very powerful, yet, quiet, efficient electric outboard. I was an early adopter, and purchased one of the first units from NewPort Vessels during the introductory pricing. The unit was shipped free of charge and arrived very quickly; however, I did experience an issue with my first unit and Newport Vessels Customer Service sent me a replacement unit with no hassle. Can't say enough about how much my son and I enjoy using the NT300 electric outboard connected to a 36v 100Ah LiFePo4 battery on my Pelican Bass Raider 10e NXT. Gets us to our favorite fishing spots in half the time as my Minn Kota 40lb trolling motor did. The NT300 requires little to no maintenance and so far has been a solid performer at a significant savings compared to it's more expensive rivals.
