Newport does not manufacture batteries. At this time we only sell BioEnno Lithium Batteries. We do not sell any lead-acid batteries, but we do have input on which ones to pair with our motors.
Trolling motors throughout the industry are designed to be powered by lead-acid deep cycle batteries. Newport will always recommend a Deep Cycle or Marine style battery that is SLA or AGM style as they are better designed to work with trolling motors and provide the best experience. You
What Battery Do I Need?
We recommend this 35ah battery, this 55ah battery, this 75ah battery, or this 100ah battery on Amazon. Please see our Run-Time Calculator to determine what amp-hour (AH) size battery you need or that would best fit your application. To maintain your battery's health, consider using our 12V Smart Battery Charger that features Pulse Repair Technology and storing your lead acid battery in our Smart Battery Box that allows for ease of portability. Read below for more detailed information on why we recommend these types of batteries and how many of these batteries you may need.
Types of Batteries
Deep Cycle batteries are preferred. Lead-acid marine batteries are acceptable as long as they are deep cycle. Note some marine batteries are starting batteries which should be avoided. You can use lithium batteries with a trolling motor if it has an output voltage of 13.8 volts or less. Please see the articles below for more information. Do not use car starter batteries with a trolling motor.
Battery Styles
There are a variety of Lead-Acid batteries that you will have to keep an eye out for. You'll see Wet-Cell, SLA, AGM, GEL, etc. Newport recommends either SLA or AGM batteries for best quality, safety and longevity. Wet-Cells require maintenance and can spill acid if tipped. Gel batteries tend to overheat if charged incorrectly and are more expensive than the others. Lithium batteries can be used, but aren't recommended. Please continue reading below for more information.
12 Volt or 24 Volt?
Our 36lb-62lb thrust motors run on 12V systems, whereas our 86lb thrust motors use 24V systems. Please see our Download Page to find your manual and instructions on how to connect your battery or batteries to your trolling motor. You can also see our Battery Connection article for more information on this topic.
