Motor repairs

I replaced the 8 speed motor switch with no problems. The cause of failure was going through too many weeds . This caused excessive amps to be drawn

Under sized fuse

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

I stumbled onto this chat and found the answer to why my motor is popping its 50amp fuse when trying to run on high. Why are these motors being sent out with an under rated fuse? Why should I spend another 25 dollars to get the 60 amp fuse it should have come with?

Great customer service

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

It took a few weeks to get it but NV backed their product under warranty and replaced my 50A circuit breaker with a 60A breaker which I discovered was necessary to run my 55A X series motor on speed 5 without "popping"

Was not the issue

Didn’t use will return. Turns out that my 2 yr old, 46thrust NV, has severe rust and corrosion in the lower unit motor, which should have, advertised as a sealed unit as all trolling motor brands. Tech support said probably hit something with motor. BS. Plus I’ve already replaced an 8 sp. switch. Back to using my 12 yr old Minn Kota, that still working just don’t have

Replacement breaker

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I had a 50 amp breaker for my 55 pound thrust motor. Any time I put the motor in high speed, it would tripped the breaker. It was recommended that I used a 60 amp breaker. So far it seems to be working perfectly.

86 lb LV Trolling Motor

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I have a 14' Modified V John boat . I previously had a bow mount Minn Kota 55lb trolling motor which was stolen off the boat. I bought this 86lb Newport for about 1/3 the price I paid 10 years ago for the old unit. I was pleased with the performance of the old unit but can't wait for spring time to get this new 86 lb Newport out for a spin. I modified the new unit with a "10-50V 100A 5000W DC Motor Engine Speed Controller 0-100% PWM Control, Industrial, Motor Speed Regulator for DC Brush Motor" which I bought from Amazon for about $53. There are multiple videos available online for this installation. Of course it required connectors and 8 gauge cable to hook up, along with a waterproof box to protect it and also detachable connectors....which probably cost another $50 or so. The value is that the PWM unit has a continuously variable potentiometer dial which controls the speed and a forward/off/reverse 3-way toggle switch. So instead of 5 forward and 3 reverse reverse speeds which is stock on the Newport, it now has continously variable speeds in both directions. My research indicates that the efficiency of the motor is several times higher at low speeds with the PWM unit and about equivalent at the highest speed. The reason is that the stock speed control uses resistors to lower the voltage and hence the speed. The resistors waste lots of energy as heat which doesn't happen with the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) speed control. Finally I purchased a LiFePO4 24V 100 Ahr batte...
