Newport handled my warranty claim promptly, with integrity and honored their outstanding two year warranty. Their staff was responsive, fair minded and personable. They reviewed my evidence and sent me a whole new motor. I would buy from them again based on their honor.
I had a 46lb thrust trolling motor and a 12V lead-acid battery on my 15' skiff and it worked but it was very slow. in a strong wind against the tide, I would start to lose control and the 100amp did not give me very much range. I upgraded to a 55lb thrust motor and a 100amp LiFePO battery and I am so glad I did. A lot more power, more than you would expect from the small incremental thrust increase and the range is twice what I got from the lead-acid battery.
I had a problem with my kayak trolling motor and after some troubleshooting they sent me a new trolling motor under warranty at no charge. It doesn't get any better than that!
This review is for the 55# unit that I’ve used for 4 years. It’s in an Old Town 10.6’ Topwater Kayak. I have a Dakota Lithium 12 Volt 54amh battery. I fish the intracoastal waters of Jacksonville, Fl and it can kick up quickly. Not a problem. You’ll get wet, but this motor will get you wherever you need to be. I use it all day and it keeps chugging. . In choppy headwinds, it gets me home without any problem. It’s in saltwater all the time and you’d never know. The circuit breaker is a problem and rusted out quickly, but everything else was perfect. 3 blade prop has no nicks, in spite of hitting bottom more than a few times. I would not use a lead acid battery (initially I did) as the weight is triple the lithium, and performance weakens as the battery cycles.
I was calling to see if I can get some help with changing the tiller handle in the opposite direction that it comes stock so I can mount it on the front of my kayak, but their phones are all static or they don't connect. The hold music and message are all clear but the actual calls are not any good. Chat has not been helpful either. The motor runs fine as is though.
Haven't used it yet but set up an tested. Worked great. Got it to me really fast. Thank you
From what I have learned running mine is they will run fine on lithium batteries but being they are not brushless motors and they will not take advantage of the longer life of a lithium battery and is probably why they do not recommend using lithium. Just wanted to share this in case someone was planning to use a lithium battery and let them know these motors will work with them but it is definitely not worth the added expense of buying a lithium battery. Fantastic motor. Customers love it. Have better control on tournaments especially in rough water/wind.
