Details

The Newport NK18O Series Control Foil is the first purpose-built performance upgrade for the NK180 HD platform. Precision-molded to fit the NK180 HD and NK180PRO, it adds a hydrodynamic foil profile that improves directional control, reduces turbulence, and sharpens steering response in current, wind, and the tight spaces around structure where positioning is everything.

The integrated cavitation plate improves shallow water performance, while the strong and lightweight polymer composite construction holds up to repeated hard use in salt and freshwater. The two-piece clamshell design installs with included stainless steel hardware in minutes — no modification to the motor required.

Frequently Asked Questions

You know how they say there’s no such thing as a dumb question? Well, they were wrong, but here are some common not-so-dumb ones

Which motors does the NK Control Foil fit?

The NK Control Foil is custom-molded for the NK180 HD and NK180PRO shaft geometry. It is not compatible with other Newport motors.

Will the Control Foil slow my motor down?

No. The foil profile is engineered to maintain full water flow and motor efficiency. You should see no measurable reduction in top speed.

How does it install?

It uses a two-piece clamshell design that clamps around the shaft and fastens with included stainless screws. A screwdriver is all you need — no modification to the motor required.

Is it saltwater safe?

Yes. It is built from UV-stabilized, saltwater-resistant Nylon composite.

What does it actually improve?

Directional tracking, turning authority at low speed, and reduced drift in current and wind. It is particularly useful when fishing around structure or in tidal conditions where motor positioning matters.

Does the depth recommendation change because of the built in cavitation plate?

The recommended depth placement of the NK180 Series Control Foil is all the way down, touching the motor pylon. This allows the alignment slot on the foil to integrate with the small fin on the aft side of the pylon, where it meets the shaft.
