  1. What batteries will and won't work with the NK180?

    • The NK180 is designed to pair with a 24V Lead-Acid or Lithium Deep Cycle battery setup. Please read our RECOMMENDED BATTERIES FOR THE NK180 article for more information and specifics.
  2. What voltage does the NK180 run at?

    • The NK180 is designed to run at 24V. See pages 30-34 of the Owner's Manual for more information.
  3. What size circuit breaker to pair with the NK180?

    • The NK180 speed controller comes with over-current protection built in, so there isn't a need for a circuit breaker. You can read more about the protection and how to solve this issue by viewing page 36 of the owner's manual.

If you would like to have a circuit breaker connected for additional protection, a 30A circuit breaker would be recommended.

  4. When will a lithium battery be available?

    • Newport is currently developing a p25.9V lithium battery pack to power the NK180; however, it is not yet available.
  5. How long can the NK180 run continuously?

    • Motor run time will depend on your battery's Amp Hours, the load of your kayak, and other environmental factors. Learn how to calculate the run time of your battery here.
  6. How far can the NK180 travel?

    • The motor range will depend entirely on the size battery you select, your kayak load, and environmental conditions.
